Salary: from £19 per hour

As a Registered Nurse at Ethos Care, you will be enabled to practice autonomously and will be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate, person-centred, evidence-based care of adults with progressive or acquired neurological conditions that respects and maintains the dignity and human rights of our service users in line with Ethos Care’s vision of empowering people to live their best life possible. You must comply with the four standards of competencies as set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and be responsible for providing clinical leadership in all aspects of nursing care by prioritising our service users, practicing effectively, preserving both theirs and your team’s safety, and promoting professionalism and trust amongst the wider Ethos Care team, our service users, and their families.


Your responsibilities

Professional

  • To participate as a member of the nursing team in the assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluation of person-centred care plans, involving the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and other relevant agencies as appropriate.
  • To provide ongoing monitoring, support, and assessment of our service users physical and physiological needs whilst ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • To safeguard our service users, promoting and protecting their rights, especially those that are not able to protect themselves from harm or abuse, acting on any concerns and escalating as required in accordance with Ethos Care’s Safeguarding Policy.
  • To administer medications in line with NMC regulations and limits of your training maintaining safe custody and accurate administration records in conjunction with the company’s Medication Management Policies.
  • To be aware of the effects of prescribed medication, monitoring and advising service users as required, liaising with other health professionals for advice/additional support if deemed necessary i.e., GP.
  • To be aware of and have regard for the advice from the NMC and other statutory bodies in relation to any professional matters arising.
  • To support and mentor your team, by developing key worker roles, ensuring they and students (where applicable) have the necessary training required to deliver the highest standards of care.
  • To provide health education through promotion of independence, personal & social skills, and social and leisure activities for all service users.
  • To support and advise relatives/carers as required, with empathy and compassion, ensuring open and transparent communication is maintained.
  • To maintain concise and accurate documentation ensuring all records are signed, timed, and dated (if handwritten), providing reports for the MDT/other health care professionals as necessary.
  • To attend mandatory and desired training courses, participating in and conducting relevant research at the direction of the Service Manager, in order to maintain our high standards of care and facilitate improvement in line with Clinical Governance.


Managerial

  • To direct support and supervise junior staff (both Nurses and HCA’s), ensuring professional lines of accountability and priorities are met and that all policies and procedures are strictly adhered to.
  • To ensure the necessary administration and information systems are in place and working, to provide flexible and quality services, effective communication, and healthy working relations. To review systems in place in liaison with both junior staff and senior management.
  • To be aware of the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, having particular regard for the following practices:

a)        Fire prevention

b)        Safer Patient Handling

c)        COSHH

d)        Food Handling

  • To be aware of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE’s) framework: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, ensuring the relevant guidance and regulations are adhered to ensure the delivery of best quality care.
  • To be aware of and enforce the Data Protection Act 1984 (GDPR principles). Any employee found to have permitted an unauthorised disclosure might lead to the Company and an individual being prosecuted.


Other duties

  • To undertake other such duties as may be reasonably requested by management or mutually determined from time to time, in accordance with your scope of practice (competency), training and relevant qualifications.

Shift Patterns

Please note that Ethos Care operates a combination 12/6 hour shift pattern which includes weekends. Rotas will be set at least 2 months in advance.


Person specification

Essential:

  • Degree qualification
  • Registered Nurse/RMN with 2+ years' experience
  • Level 3 English and Maths or equivalent if from overseas: OSCE, CBT, IELTS/OET
  • Sound clinical knowledge/experience
  • Understanding of specialist neurological care/complex care environment
  • Excellent relationship/team building skills
  • Experience in staff management
  • Highly organised with good time management skills
  • Forward thinking, assertive and problem solver
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Dynamic, ability to adapt to change
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work as part of a team
  • Honest, reliable, and trustworthy
  • Personal, presentable, and professional
  • A clean UK driving licence
  • DBS and POVA clearance


Desirable:

  • Previous neurological care experience
